Bahdja " Alger la vie continue 1995

Between 1995 and 1998, I produced few photo reportages about Algiers and the daily lives of its inhabitants during the height of the Black Decade, thus painting a portrait of a Civilization at war against desolation, armed only with their faith and their joy.

A documentary about the overlooked yet surprising aspects of the daily lives of Algiers' inhabitants.

Without ever being able to feel the impact of the civil war that ravaged the country at that exact moment.

Escaping a country where you do not belong to become an illegal refugee in a country where you do not belong either. Sharing your every day’s life with  societies that hate the idea of your existence.
You live in a lie to escape your reality under the threat of being deported at any moment. And, if deported you are at risk of being arrested or assassinated by those who you escaped from.
