M. Skander
Born Mustapha Skander Zoubir
also known as M.Skander Daellssy
Photographer of life capturing happiness before it fades away.
Taking images of Love gestures as he experienced it during the Algerian civil war " The Black Decade " and the 90s Club & Queer Scene.
Travelling back and forward between Algiers, Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris, capturing raw human emotions and the expression of love through every day’s life gestures. The expression of Love and hate within human subcultures are at the centre of his work. Encompassing all the aspects of love within and their interactions with their surrounding worlds.
Why hate when you can love, why bully if you can tolerate, why hurt if you can heal, those were the questions that Mus was always asking himself, why should one feel miserable and be abused if he doesn’t fit the mould of any of the accepted subcultures.
B.U.R.G.E.R WHO'S WHO'S LAND BRUSSELS 1998
Projects from 1995 to 2010
Escaping a country where you didn’t belong to end up illegal refugee in an other country where you do not belong either. Sharing your every day’s life with a society that hate the idea of you. Falling under another stereotype classification.
You live in a lie to escape your reality under the threat of being deported at any moment. Guess what My spiritual animal is a CatFish. If deported I was at risk of being arrested or assassinated by those who I escaped from in the first place.
This is my untold story in bits & pieces
